Official opening of the Chaudière Falls Expansion project

News

By Cossette QC 26 October 2017

On October 16, Hydro Ottawa officially opened Chaudiere Falls to the public and inaugurated the new Chaudière hydroelectric facility.

Since 2015,  EBC’s team has been working on the construction of the new 29 MW hydroelectric facility at Chaudiere Falls on the Ottawa River. With the world’s two most powerful ECOBulb turbines (4 X 8 MW), this new Hydro plant will provide electricity to 20 000 homes.

On a unique and memorable location near Parliament Hill, which is visible from the site, part of the project’s purpose was to preserve these views and create greater public access. The project presented a variety of challenges, such as blasting sequences, noise levels and seismic monitoring as this site is known as the cradle of Canadian history and required the conservation of existing buildings. Therefore, in this populated urban environment, the 200 workers met these challenges with professionalism and rigour.

Congratulations to all for this project. Your expertise and the collaboration between the teams have made this project a great success.
