New Jacques-Bizard Bridge

New mandates

By Johanne Laurin 5 April 2022

EBC proudly announces it was selected by the City of Montréal to build the new Jacques-Bizard Bridge, the only roadway that links l’Île-Bizard to Montréal.

With its contemporary architecture, this sober structure will blend perfectly with its surrounding landscape. It will be erected above the Rivière des Prairies, a few meters east of the current bridge which was built in 1966 and is now at the end of its lifespan. The choice of innovative and quality materials will increase the new structure’s resistance to de-icing salts and the freeze-thaw cycle that highly contribute to concrete and steel degradation.  Consequently, this new bridge will have an expected lifespan of 100 years.

This construction project will include four lanes for motorized vehicles, construction of a two-way bike path on its eastern side and wider sidewalks on its western side, the redesign of its approaches spanning over 800 meters leading to the intersections of Cherrier Street and Gouin Boulevard. Additionally, the project also includes the reconstruction of its roadway, water and sewer lines, its lighting and electrical systems, and cabling.  Finally, a belvedere will be built in the middle of the bridge, with urban furniture at its edge and trees and vegetation will be planted.

Moreover, the redevelopment of Parc Denis-Benjamin-Viger, located at the entrance to L’Île-Bizard, will be integrated into the project. Works include its pavilion and furniture replacement, plots improvements and the addition of new trails.

Over 30,000 vehicles use the current Jacques-Bizard Bridge every day. This new bridge will make it easier for cyclists and pedestrians to move around.

The project will begin in March 2022 and end in June 2024.

Thank you to the City of Montréal for its confidence in our team to ensure build a reliable, durable and essential infrastructure which will improve cyclist and pedestrian mobility.
