On February 16, 2023, Cecobois celebrated Québec expertise in wood construction by rewarding some twenty exceptional projects at the 8th edition of the Cecobois Awards of Excellence gala, held at the Palais Montcalm in Québec City before an audience of 400 people.

Nominated in three categories, it was with great pride that the head office of the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST) in the D’Estimauville eco-district in Québec City was doubly rewarded:

  • Institutional building over 1000 square meter (ex aequo)
  • Structural concept

Grandiose, this eight-storey project did not lack praise from the jury, who even described it as a jewel. The impressive and innovative geometry of the mesh roof is beautifully highlighted, complemented by the finesse of the integrated furniture and the wooden signage, all of which contribute to the quality of this spectacular building designed with great concern for the well-being of its users.

The jury also praised the designers’ willingness to preserve and enhance the wooden concept despite the constraints, redoubling their ingenuity in order to implement innovative solutions to make the impressive eight-storey lattice structure a reality. A feat achieved with great attention to detail, including the skilful integration of the mechanical solutions required for such a high space.

From the fifty or so applications received for projects completed over the past three years, the jury selected those that stood out in terms of the quality of the architectural and structural concepts, the quality of execution, aesthetics, functionality, and the effective integration of wood.

Congratulations to all those who worked on this exceptional building, showcasing a renewable and sustainable resource!
